a little polar bear cub. It was so sudden that I couldn’t say a word . I was looking at the bear-cub, and it was doing the same. Then, after a while, the cub sniffed my face. I didn’t move. (I remembered that it was recommended not to move meeting a wild animal, a polar bear, for example, face to face). The cub seemed to meet a man for the first time in its life. It looked funny and curious, and so white besides its eyes and nose, as white as the snow. But it didn’t look dangerous at all. What had I to do? I felt for some plumps of sugar in my pocket and took one. I put it on my palm and gave it to the cub. It took the sugar with its tongue and ran away. I breathed with relief. It looked like a dream.
