Once in Christmas Arctic

Сучкова Надежда Сергеевна. 15 лет. Once in Christmas Arctic. HIGH.

Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.
That day or night (I can’t say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping.
I didn’t have to fall asleep so I looked outside for some fresh air and came face to face with a ...

anunusual girl. She was very beautiful. From a first glance it seemed, that she was only ten, but her brown eyes were too severe for that age. They looked with surprise, fear and confusion. She wanted to run away but I grabbed her arm. She screamed. I began to soothe her, saying that I will not hurt her. She believed me and stopped struggling. More than half an hour I was trying to find out her name and how she came here, but it was useless. She was silent and just stared at me with those big eyes. When I decided to call my colleagues, she jumped up and said her name was Star. After that, she told me that not far from here there was a small village where she lived. I became very interested and asked her to take me there. She refused, but I persuaded her. She led me through the narrow path until we reached a massive glacier. I asked where we were, but she said nothing and knocked on the ice three times. Suddenly the door in the glacier opened, and a boy ran from it. He was very similar to Star. He yelled something at my new friend, and she in turn said something in a strange language that I had never heard of. It was like Japanese, but it was not it. Listening to Star, the boy bowed, introduced himself as Ben and showed me to the door. I went inside the glacier trough the door and could not believe my eyes. Unusual and beautiful live flowers were covering the walls, green grass was covering the floor. It was very strange, but it was the most beautiful scene I have ever seen. In the middle of the floor there was a hatch. The boy first jumped into the hatch, so did Star and I decided to go there as well. We went through the hatch and started to fall down. It seemed to me that we would fly forever, but suddenly I found myself in a huge pool of white feathers. I got up, shook myself and saw the following picture: boys and girls walked around me, everyone looked like Ben and Starr. There couldn’t be any sunlight, but it seemed that the sun shined everywhere. Together with children the camels, lions, hippos and elephants were walking around. I was approached by Star and she said that the place was called Fairytale. She led me to small green houses, similar in shape to the maple leaves. Loud merry music was heard from every house, delicious smell was coming through the windows of different and unfamiliar dishes. And at that moment I felt as if I was back at my home. I remembered my hometown, my family, my friends, but pleasant thoughts were distracted by Star. She said that we came to her house. We went into a tiny house, that was standing in the center of this little fairy world. She shouted something, and children came around: one was playing the violin, another was singing, and the others were dancing around me. I was very well feasted. Children fed me a delicious cake, and Star took me to the waterfall. When we were alone, I asked why they all were so delighted by my visit. Star said that they had been waiting for that moment. I wanted to ask why, but she ran away, inviting me to play with her. When I caught up with her, I looked around. I found myself in a dark place, which was not like the Fairytale village. It was dark, damp and cold. I called Star, but no one answered, and I could not hear even a quiet whisper. Suddenly I was surrounded by all the children, was seized by them and dragged to the pit. I was thrown in to the pit, from which I could not escape. Star came by. I asked her to tell me what was going on. She was silent for a long time, then laughed and cried that they had caught Santa. She said that I could not escape, and now I had to give them their gifts. Her face was sad and she started to say that they were only children, but they never had any gifts. I realized what they needed from me, but I had no gifts. When I said this, children began to throw stones at me. I woke up. It was just a dream. But it was so real. I left the tent, had my breakfast and went on with the tasks of the expedition with my colleagues. Something bothered me though. I should find the way to send some presents to my little brothers back home!
