Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.

…with a polar bear. The bear shrank. I was surprised and shrank too. It stood frozen in front of me. I put my hand into the tent and began looking for something to protect with. The bear was smelling round. Then I found a flashlight and shone right in the bear’s shout. It shook its head, breathed noisily, turned around and ran away. And I fell down in the tent. I was tired. We frightened each other much.
